Description

*       Our client is hiring a  Structural Designer with experience in the hydrocarbons, power generation and heavy industry experience.   Experience in Cement work, minerals and metals also preferred.  CADWORX strongly preferred.

Prepares detailed drawings/models for a complete phase of a project from rough sketches and related technical data requiring the application of theoretical and practical design knowledge.

*       Checks work assigned to lower-level CAD Technicians for technical quality, accuracy and compliance with customer, Company and discipline standards.

*       Performs discipline design tasks which regularly require the application of fundamental engineering concepts.

*       Reviews manufacturers' or fabricators' drawing submittals for conformance with contract specifications.

*       Establishes design requirements for an assigned phase of a project, determines manpower requirements and monitors schedule/progress.

*       Provides input to performance appraisals for lower-level personnel assigned to project. Supports field assignments as required.

Requirements

*       Typically six years progressively responsible discipline related design experience; AA degree or completion of technical courses with 3-5 years of relevant experience.

*       Intermediate level design position responsible for performing moderate to complex work assignments involving independent judgment to determine a course of action consistent with established functional and organization's policies and goals. Familiar with basic engineering and/or design/drafting concepts. Has general understanding of other disciplines' roles in the design process. Able to complete tasks in accordance with project procedures and applicable codes and/or standards. Able to discuss routine technical problems and communicate effectively with immediate supervisor and other project personnel.

*       Able to utilize advanced PC and 2D CAD tools, and other applicable hardware and software to perform duties with minimal assistance. Continue to apply and strengthen applicable design skills, as well as software skills, such as 3D CAD. Ability to meet deadlines and manage priorities important. Strong written and verbal communication skills are critical. Usually able to explain why things are done they way they are within a broader organizational context.

*       Commitment to customer service and ability to work in a team-oriented environment. Ability to maintain confidential information critical. Under minimal supervision, performs difficult drafting/design and/or technical support assignments, requiring the application of advanced drafting and fundamental design techniques, and engineering and mathematical principles, in accordance with established standards and procedures. May direct the work of lower-level CAD Technicians.

*       Typically will regularly interface with departmental staff and lower, middle and upper management, and frequently with outside customers.
